Culture and Community Context
Edmondson is a smaller school that focuses on community. They strive for their parents to be involved in their child’s learning and know the importance of showing evidence of a student’s learning. The teachers at the school are also a tight knit community and believe in collaborating to enrich the learning of their students. Community is important to the school because many of its students come from lower income families and building a community at the school can help those kids to succeed. They are also in the process of becoming a STEM school. Becoming a STEM school will add too many of the programs they have in place to help students achieve and excel in school. At Edmondson they also offer extracurricular programs like, chess, Lego robotic, Odyssey of the Mind, and a variety of family nights. With these extracurricular activities, Edmondson has many opportunities for parents to be involved and volunteer their time at the school. This allows for parents to be involved in the community the school has created with their students and staff. They also have a community partnership with the Embassy Suites of Loveland, Colorado. Community is a very important aspect to Edmondson and they have really built an amazing community in their school with the parents, students, and the staff.

Classroom Environment
At Edmondson the art room is an average sized classroom. There is one sink in the class and one white board. There are eight labeled tables were students are assigned seats. The walls in the classroom have a lot of shelving up against them where all the art supplies is organized. There is also one set of cabinets in the room where art supplies can be stored. All art supplies is easily accessible to the teacher on the shelves so that transition time in-between classes doesn't take too long. There is also a shelf with square cubbies as you come in the classroom where students’ journals are organized by class. These cubbies are also a space for completed artwork to be placed so that the students’ artwork doesn’t get mixed up into a different classroom. There is a kiln located in the boiler room but that is down the hall and through the gym from the art room. Even though the classroom is filled with tables and shelves there is still enough space for students to efficiently move around during transitions so that they are able to get the most out of their art time.

Centennial is a high striving school. They focus on creating a friendly and inviting learning environment where students can strive to achieve their best. It is really important that students are successful and that teachers use the best teaching practices to help students succeed. At Centennial they also have high expectations for the students and the teachers at the school. To make sure the teachers are using the best teaching practices the school has the grade level teacher collaborate and review data to make adjustments to the curriculum as needed. This collaboration between teachers also helps build a strong community among the staff. This community creates a good learning environment for the students. PTA is also a large part of the community built at Centennial. The PTA is very involved in the school that there were multiple parents who volunteered over 100 hours of their time to the school. Having lots of involvement in the school creates a strong bond between the parents, teachers, and students. This then creates a positive learning environment for the students where they can be successful. Centennial also offers many extracurricular activities for students like, garden club, knitting club, talent show, student council canned food drive, and a wide variety of others. This gives the students many opportunities to be involved in their school and helps them to be more successful in the classroom. At Centennial student success is very important to the parents, teachers, and students that they all strive to reach.

Classroom Environment
At Centennial the art room is larger than most average classrooms. This allows for a lot of storage space for student artwork and art supplies. There are six labeled tables were students are assigned seats. There is also a carpet area that students can come sit at during PowerPoint presentations. There is one white board in the classroom and three sinks all located in different areas of the classroom. Having multiple sinks can be very useful for clean-up in the classroom making it a more smooth transition for the students. There is also a kiln room located right off the classroom which creates an easy transition for clay from the room to the kiln. There is also a storage closet located off the classroom where all art supplies is located and organized for easy access. There are also two sets of cabinets where art supplies can be stored as well. Finally there is a shelf with square cubbies where the students’ journals and completed artwork is stored and organized by classroom so that things don’t get lost or mixed into different classes. The art room at Centennial has a lot of space for artwork and art materials to be stored as well as places for the student to work. This creates a nice environment for the students to work in and have smooth transitions so that they are getting the most of their art time.

Through these policies students are given access to a safe learning environment and any individualized plans that meet their specific needs.

To be able to help students achieve and excel in schools the Thompson School District believes it is important that students learn in a safe environment. When students feel safe and free from distractions they are able to apply themselves to their learning and do their best. To ensure the students have a safe environment the district has put in many policies like the nondiscrimination and accountability program policies. These policies were reviewed by other districts and modified to fit the needs of the Thompson School District schools and then put in place to keep their students safe.
Also in the Thompson School district to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to achieve and excel academically they have policies in place for students with special needs. Part of this policy states that students who have been refereed for an evaluation will be tested and placed on an Individual Education Plan (IEP) as needed. The student’s IEP will specify the needs of the student and whether they will need help to understand content standards or individualized standards so that the student may be most successful in their abilities.
